UPDATE: Trucking Company Successfully Organizes Community Donations of 20-Trailerloads for Relief to North Carolina After Hurricane Helene Devastation
Fort Wayne, IN, 10-21-2024 – In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina on September 28, 2024, Buchanan Hauling & Rigging and Buchanan Logistics launched a large-scale relief effort with their "Fill the Truck" campaign. The initiative was aimed at delivering essential supplies to hurricane-impacted communities, demonstrating the power of unity and responsibility during challenging times.
The Campaign: Filling 20 Trucks with Relief Supplies
On October 3, 2024, inspired by an employee's desire to help those affected, Buchanan Hauling & Rigging and Buchanan Logistics challenged their employees, local businesses, and the entire Northeast Indiana community to come together and fill 20 semi-trucks with non-perishable food, hygiene products, clothing, and other essential goods. Drawing from the company’s experience in relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina, owner Geary Buchanan personally spurred on the initiative, encouraging widespread participation.
Driven by the company’s core values of Determination, Integrity, Safety, and Community, employees and volunteers mobilized swiftly. Supplies were collected for hard-hit areas in North Carolina, such as Asheville and Alexandria, to provide immediate aid to hurricane survivors.
A Community Unites
The response from the Fort Wayne community was overwhelming. Individuals, businesses, and media outlets joined forces to support the campaign in remarkable ways. Local residents and businesses rallied together, showcasing an inspiring level of generosity.
Progress and Milestones
The "Fill the Truck" campaign quickly gained momentum:
• By October 5, the first truck was fully loaded and headed to North Carolina.
• By October 9, seven trucks had been filled, prompting Buchanan to extend the collection drive through Friday, October 18.
• On October 11, the campaign reached 16 trucks, with additional loading still underway.
• By October 18, the goal was achieved: all 20 trucks were going to be able to be filled with essential supplies destined for North Carolina.
Financial Support and Extended Relief
Financial contributions also poured in from local businesses, employees, the owners of Buchanan, and the public, further bolstering the relief efforts. A public Go-Fund-Me campaign also helped ensure trucks were filled with supplies for those in need.
