First Day of Spring is March 21. Another winter moves into the History Books! 2018 is shaping up to be a great year for business. Customers, Vendors and friends are all talking about how the economy is doing. Thinking back to when I entered the work force in 1972, it seems like it is better now than it ever has been. Many things have changed since 1972… there was no internet, no cell phones, fax machines were really primitive, very little air conditioning, Cable TV was a thing of the future, the Bears were really sad and most the trucks in the Midwest were Cabover models. In 1972 transportation was planned out a week or 2 in advance, there was very little just in time delivery. Most factories and plants had thousands of feet of warehouse space which was a huge expense they did away with in later years.
We have some new opportunities which are opening up within our Open Deck Division in the Gulf Coast Region for drivers who possess Hazmat, Tanker and Twic Cards. This new account will kick off May 1st. Any drivers who would like more information please contact Sherry in Safety. This is a long-term opportunity and is a great opportunity for us all.
I hope all of you are enjoying or will enjoy a Spring Break with your Family and Friends. Remember that going to a warmer climate with sunny skies is a great combination for sunburn so use plenty of sun screen. Easter also comes early this year. Good Friday will be March 30th and Easter April 1st. Some of our customers and their plants will closed on Friday, especially those along the border with Mexico. Remember to check and see who is working and who is not. Holy Week in Mexico has very little travel for trucks and almost no travel for OD loads, so plan accordingly.
